The Passionate Landscape
Painting is a response from the artist
to his or her environment; we paint to express ourselves, to
communicate our joys, our passions. What is it about a particular
place or scene that captivates us, what is it in particular that we
wish to share with world? This intermediate level class will
encourage the evolving landscape painter to more fully explore the
dynamics of colour and composition, and the energy of vigorous
brushwork, to find their own voice.

Canadian Winter Palette
Crisp, cold blue skies, sparkling snow,
deep, rich evergreen – these are the colours of the Canadian
winter. But there is no cool without warm; if we look more closely,
we can find the hidden warmth in the dogwoods, trees and winter
grasses.
This winter, join Scott Cooper in an
exploration of the Colours of Winter. Using a limited palette of
colours you will come to a new understanding of colour relationships.
Thoughtful consideration will be given to using photographic
reference to build engaging compositions, with an emphasis on
building your image within a strong, underlying structure.

New Workshop!
There is a long tradition of artists
portraying the form of objects and figures by using a toned paper as
the middle value and creating lights with chalk and shadows with
charcoal. In this one day workshop Scott Cooper will lead a class to
investigate applications of this approach to drawing for a variety of
genres, including still life/floral, landscape and figure/portrait.
Various media will be employed, including charcoal and carbon
pencils, coloured pencil, sketching markers, wash drawing, etc.
Students will work from a combination of still life objects and photo
reference; reference material will be provided, but students may
bring their own.
